Born on June 17, 1971, in Patna, Bihar, Dr. Azam Badar Khan comes from a distinguished family of medical professionals. His father, Dr. Badrul Huda Khan, was a renowned orthopedic surgeon, and Dr. Azam grew up deeply influenced by a legacy of service and compassion. The second among five siblings, he displayed academic excellence, leadership qualities, and a strong desire to help others from an early age.

Educated at Air Force School, Delhi, Dr. Azam initially aspired to become a fighter pilot. However, destiny guided him toward medicine, where he went on to build an extraordinary career. He completed his MBBS from Nalanda Medical College in 1996, followed by a Master of Surgery from IMS-BHU (Banaras Hindu University) in 2001. To further strengthen his expertise, he pursued advanced fellowships in Arthroplasty and Trauma in the United States and Russia.

A Career Rooted in Service and Excellence

Even during his student years, Dr. Azam demonstrated an exceptional sense of social responsibility. He actively volunteered during major relief operations, including the 2001 Gujarat earthquake and the Odisha cyclone, providing medical assistance to disaster-affected communities.

He began his professional career at Apollo Hospital, Delhi, in 2002, before moving overseas to gain international exposure. In 2008, he joined Rashid Hospital, Dubai, and later worked with globally reputed institutions such as the Hospital for Special Surgery, New York, and the Institute of Research in Orthopedics and Traumatology, St. Petersburg. After a brief period in Bahrain, he settled in Dubai with his wife, Dr. Subuhi Khan, a radiology specialist. Both continue to make valuable contributions to the UAE healthcare ecosystem.

Leader in Knee Replacement and Preventive Care

Dr. Azam Badar Khan is today regarded as one of Dubai’s leading knee replacement surgeons. He serves as a Community-Based Doctor (CBD) at hospitals including Prime Hospital, NMC, Medcare, and IMH. His expertise in arthroscopy and arthroplasty has earned him wide professional recognition.

He also heads the Knee Osteoarthritis Preventive and Knee Replacement Clinic at International Modern Hospital, where he not only performs advanced surgeries but also leads awareness programs focused on early diagnosis and preventive knee care.

Humanitarian Work Beyond Borders

Beyond clinical practice, Dr. Azam remains deeply committed to humanitarian service. For the past five years, he has organized Ramadan Iftar distribution programs at the Sajaa Labor Camp in Sharjah, benefitting thousands of underprivileged blue-collar workers.

He has also supported and volunteered for the first-ever Ram Katha event in the UAE, actively contributing to cultural harmony and social engagement.

Strong Roots in India, Inclusive Service in the UAE

Despite his global presence, Dr. Azam maintains a strong emotional and cultural connection with India, especially Bihar. He actively promotes Indian cultural values in the UAE and has been closely associated with initiatives linked to the Abu Dhabi Hindu Temple. Known for his inclusive mindset, his work serves humanity beyond distinctions of religion, race, or community.

Medical Outreach in Ladakh and Global Impact

For over six years, Dr. Azam has been conducting free medical camps in Kargil, Ladakh, offering knee health assessments to hundreds of patients, many of whom urgently require surgical intervention. His social responsibility extends to adopting remote villages in Ladakh, where he provides medicines, solar lights, and sports equipment.

In May 2024, Dr. Azam organized a special side event at the World Health Assembly in collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO) to raise global awareness about knee health, with special emphasis on Africa. His contribution to Somalia, where he performed the first successful total knee replacement surgery, stands as a milestone in expanding advanced orthopedic care in underserved regions.

A firm believer in physical fitness and environmental responsibility, Dr. Azam has participated in initiatives such as the Mount Everest Base Camp expedition, promoting health awareness and active lifestyles. He has also contributed to environmental initiatives, including waste management campaigns under India’s Swachh Bharat Abhiyan in the Ladakh region.
